Fortnite Set to Return to iOS After Five-Year Ban
Fortnite is finally making its way back to iOS devices, marking the end of a five-year absence. The popular battle royale title was previously removed from the App Store due to a high-profile legal battle between Epic Games and Apple. Now, the long wait seems to be nearing its end, as the game's re-launch for iPhone and iPad users is just around the corner.
Fortnite on iPhone: When Is It Coming Back?
While there's no confirmed launch date yet, Epic Games has confirmed that the game has been resubmitted to Apple for review. The final release will depend on how quickly Apple approves the submission. If everything proceeds smoothly, Fortnite could be back on the App Store in the coming weeks. Fans have been eagerly waiting for this moment, and the recent announcement has only fueled their excitement.
How to Download Fortnite on iOS
There are two main ways expected for iOS users to get Fortnite once it goes live:
1.Via the App Store
This is the traditional and most straightforward method. Just open the App Store, search for "Fortnite," tap the ‘Get’ button, and the download should begin.
In the European Union, users already have access to the Epic Games Store as an alternative distribution method. This involves installing the Epic Games app first, followed by Fortnite. Whether this method becomes available in other regions, including the U.S., depends on future regulatory approvals.
Epic Games has stated that it will share more detailed installation steps once the game officially launches.
Why Was Fortnite Removed in the First Place?
Fortnite was pulled from the iOS App Store back in August 2020. The removal came after Epic Games introduced a direct payment system inside the app, bypassing Apple’s mandatory in-app purchase mechanism. This move violated Apple’s policies, triggering a major legal confrontation.
As a result, Apple terminated Epic’s developer account, cutting off iOS users from accessing or updating the game. However, recent legal and regulatory changes in both the U.S. and Europe have opened the door for Fortnite’s return to iOS platforms.
